A Cornish Italian Connection..

As a family, we were lucky enough to experience the wonderful hospitality of Cristina and Marco Mombelli-Armondi at the fabulous Tredethy House. This elegant country house is set in an area of outstanding beauty near Bodmin in Cornwall. Built in Tudor times and later extended, it has been the unique home of many British families and of Prince Chula of Thailand until the late sixties. Its spacious interior is now laced with that typically Italian warmth and uncomplicated style. We were impressed by the attention to detail and yet they have maintained a family feel; as if we were staying at a home away from home.

For our evening meal we took a table in the extremely relaxing surroundings of the Trattoria; the warmth of the log fire adding to the welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed truly mouth-watering, uncomplicated food prepared by Cristina; cured meats, creamy buffalo mozzarella, olives from Liguria, warm bread and handmade pasta parcels filled with various delights and just a drizzle of sage butter. It was all to die for. Cristina uses seasonal, organic and local ingredients whenever possible, as well as gourmet Italian staples from the finest producers. The buffet breakfast was also varied and delicious, including home-made yoghurt, and served in another fine, elegant room.

We wouldn’t hesitate to return to Tredethy House. A beautiful location, a warm welcome, incredible food and a huge family bedroom suite to boot.
