About Our Jewellery

What is Pewter?

Pewter is almost 91% Tin, with the other 9% made up of a little Copper and Antimony, which is a white metal mineral also found in nature.

Modern Pewter is completely free of nickel and lead, so does not tarnish or irritate.

Why is Koa Jewellery Ethical?

Our jewellery is made by hand in the UK using Pewter that has a Tin content that is 100% recycled. Every aspect of our production and mailing process is considered, especially in terms of the materials used, and whether or not we can successfully recycle or re-use any of the waste that is produced in the process.

As well as this, we seek to find suppliers with a similar outlook, and only work with independent businesses that champion slow fashion and handmade in the UK.

Should I have any allergy concerns?

Certainly not. The pewter and findings ( ear stems, chains etc ) we use are 100% lead and nickel free. It is usually nickel used in the plating of low cost jewellery findings that causes skin irritation.

We only use carefully sourced, hand picked, stainless steel and silver plated findings, when finishing our handmade ethical jewellery.

Jewellery Care

How can I look after my jewellery?

In its simplicity, Koa jewellery is designed to be worn every day. A few simple steps can be taken to prolong it’s life, and make the enjoyment of wearing it one that goes on and on.

Always remove your jewellery before showering, exercising and going to sleep. When not wearing it, fasten any clasps and store it in a warm, dry environment (such as the pouch it is supplied in) avoid putting it on straight after anything has been directly applied to the skin, such as a tanning lotion or suncream.

To clean it, use the gentle touch. Apply a mild soap with a soft cloth (no harsh chemicals) and rinse with clean warm water. Pat it dry with another soft cloth. Repeat this process regularly to keep the jewellery looking fresh for another day.

Packaging

Does my order come packaged?

Yes it does. All orders will be received with each piece individually boxed using our own unique packaging. Within the box itself, the jewellery is placed in a soft cotton pouch. This is perfect for the safe keeping of the jewellery, for if and when it is not being worn.

Alongside your separately boxed pieces, you will also receive an information booklet regarding the origin of the work, and how to take good care of it.
